missing rights in mississipi

a few nights ago PBS aired a special called "the last abortion clinic". endure the shoddy online quality and WATCH IT and never feel the same. thank f?&@ i don't live in mississipi. http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/clinic/view/ .

its very timely because not only is abortion access eroding everywhere all the time in the US, the newly appointed supreme court justices (namely Roberts and Alito) will have their chance to prove their conservative might in less than a month: on Nov. 30 the supreme court hears Ayote vs. New Hampshire, a case about the constitutionality of requiring that the parents of pregnant minors be informed of their abortions.

i'm glad you've posted on this issue. I was just browsing the guerilla girls website (www.guerillagirlsontour.com) and they have a brilliant poster that reworks the "Desperate Housewives" moniker to reflect reality not plastic. Their poster addresses just this issue of contested availability of emergency contracpetive in some states. I tried to upload it to my blog, but it's protected. But i was going to ask you, what are the policies like in canada? is it uniformly available, or do we have this religiousity loop-hole too?

the canadian women's health network is leading a campaign to have EC available over-the-counter with no intermediary necessary (no doctor, pharmacist, or anyone), which of course would eliminate the threat of this kind of denial of access. there is no medical reason not too. check it out:

in the US it is really terrible- the US FDA still hasn't followed recommendations from its own advisory committees to delist EC and make it more accessible. i know american women can use this site though:
www.getthepill.com
and get a prescription online.
